Leading Self and Others

Smile, please

Did you ever notice that when you are happy, the people around you would appear more friendly and positive environment? Did you also ever noticed that when you are unhappy, the people around you make you feel more agitated or irritated even if their actions were meant to be supportive and positive? Obviously, your environment is a reflection of your inner climate i.e., what you feel inside is what you project outside.

You must be aware that our moods affect our facial expressions and behavior. But did you know our self-created facial expressions also affect our mood? Based on studies, smiling triggers the release of chemicals related to happiness, while frowning triggers the release of chemicals related to unhappiness. So, smiling even at the times you don’t feel like smiling, makes you feel better.

“Smile can uplift the environment within you and outside”

People who practice visualization techniques to attract their desires would easily grasp this. However, this is just for all and it’s purely a chemical reaction that happens within our body. Try out smiling by imagining something positive or smile by imagining things that you are grateful for. For example, you have a family. When there is a family, there is love. While you feel grateful for having a family, smiling for the love you have at home, will make your body turn from negative to positive or make you feel somewhat better, to say the least. In fact, you may not need a reason as you start practicing conscious smiling for some number of times.

Every time you smile, the effect is positive unless you imagining something negative while smiling. You may wear the most flattering clothes, but your facial expression that comes from within influences most how others perceive you. A pleasant expression is inviting; a frown turns people stay away from you, if not physically. Not just you, people would also prefer positivity. People react physically as well as emotionally to our facial expressions. Since we ourselves feel better when we smile or look pleasant, and others like us better that way, doesn’t it help our attitude and relationships for betterment?
